Hip arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat a wide range of hip joint problems that may not respond to more conservative treatments. A few tiny incisions are made in the hip to allow a long, narrow camera (arthroscope) and specific tools during hip arthroscopy. The surgeon may "see" within the joint and execute the surgery using a viewscreen. When compared to open surgical approaches, the smaller incisions result in less discomfort and swelling and a speedier recovery for the patient.
